The current Shiller PE of FTSE 100 is 15.62 (9/30/2019), considerable lower than the corresponding ratio of FSE 250. The trailing twelve month P/E is currently 15.28 . For the latest data, available on a monthly level, check the Global Equity Valuations Researcher Dataset provided by Siblis Research. The reason is that the PE ratio compares an index or a company’s price to last year’s earnings, and earnings over a single year are just too volatile to be a useful measure of long-term value. This makes the ratio much higher than the trailing P/E reported by e.g. FTSE Russell which excludes companies reporting negative net income.
